Within our solar system, Mars is one of the most Earth-like places around, and billions of years ago – when life originated on Earth – the two planets had even more in common. Lindsay Hays, Program Officer and Deputy Program Scientist at the NASA Astrobiology Program, studies the intriguing possibility that life may have existed somewhere on Mars in the past. In seeking to answer this question, astrobiologists also gain insight into the early evolution of life on Earth.
