You dropped Princess Protection for Smart House? Smart choice, Doug!

about the son cleaning the house after the mother passed as being unrealistic by some viewers. I lost my mum not long ago and since then all I've done is clean and pretty much do what she did. Especially since she found so much joy in keeping the house clean and tidy. Even watered her plants for her, kept the cupboard stocked, and managed everything in the house in her absence.

Not unrealistic at all. It's more of a coping mechanism.

The concept of the film alone was enough to make me love it.
I still enjoy this film even today.

I feel like the reason they used the same look at the end of the movie is because that it was supposed to be interpreted as evil before, but the realization that she was just trying to be the perfect mom and that smile is supposed to be just a happy mom.
Also limited computer animations could just be another write off. Still, I loved this movie growing up and I'm glad to see it held up.

Smart House was Black Mirror before Black Mirror was Black Mirror.

I was hoping he would do Don't Look Under the Bed.
Not only is it called Disney Channel's scariest film, but it also has an original premise: Imaginary friends and Boogymen being the same thing. Hell, it even delivers on the kind of creativity Doug thought lacked in Halloweentown.
This is a gold mine for him to talk about!

Also the house is played by Leela from Futurama so that adds like 50 points right there.

I really did like this one as a kid. I say this was one of the better Disney Channel movies back then.

I can sympathize with the brother in this movie. Seeing his dad date another woman makes him feel like he’s betraying his departed mother. I lost my dad I’m 2012 and when my mom started dating again I also felt like she was betraying his memory. But you have to realize that eventually your remaining parent may want that kind of companionship again and you have to accept that while your parent may be moving on, they aren’t trying to betray their deceased spouse. If anything, I bet my dad would tell my mom that it would be time to move on and meet a new guy. And the guy she’s seeing right now is great. He makes her happy and he is a really nice guy. So yeah. This movie does actually get it right about parents who have died

I remember this movie genuinely scaring me as a kid--but it's probably because I was (and am) claustrophobic, so the idea of being trapped in a house and not allowed to leave terrified/terrifies me like nothing else.

Even though I love Princess Protection Program, I'm glad you skipped it. It's just a typical DCOM with better characters and actors. At the most, I think you'd find the villain interesting and maybe the environment but that's it. It is NOT about a super-secret spy organization that harbors royalty. The first five minutes is, but the rest is just about two polar opposite teenagers who become freinds. The end.
