This Two-Toed Sloth Is an Excellent Swimmer

Показать описание
Sloths, the slowest of all mammals, spend almost their entire lives upside down. Because of that, their fur grows in the opposite direction of all other mammals, allowing water to run off them when it rains. Surprisingly, they are also excellent swimmers. But despite these adaptations, sloths face numerous threats. Their forest homes are becoming fragmented and they are a popular target for traffickers in the illegal pet trade.

This story is a part of our Planet Earth series. From mammals to insects and birds to reptiles, we share this great big world with all manner of creatures, large and small. Come with us to faraway places as we explore our great big planet and meet some of its wildest inhabitants.

This is a Linn's (linnese) sloth usually not as cute as a hoffmani's two toed sloth, but this sweety has a gorgeous coat. For some reason this type sloth here (not the ones we see in costa rica with lighter features) is most common in Zoo's not sure why maybe they are calmer, 2 toed sloths can be very aggressive in the wild.

Three toe sloths are excellent swimmers. Two toe sloths are *NOT* excellent swimmers.
