GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG Wagner – La Monnaie De Munt

Gathered at the foot of the rock where Siegfried and Brünnhilde have come together, three Norns weave the fate of the world. Past, present and future are interwoven in their rope; when it breaks unexpectedly, the fates still have one oracle: the twilight of the gods is imminent! Götterdämmerung has more than one ending: Siegfried falls victim to intrigue and to his own innocence, Valhalla goes up in flames, Brünnhilde sacrifices herself to return the ring to the Rhinemaidens. Alliances are forged and immediately broken again, magical potions and helmets create painful confusions, and generational traumas result in general destruction. Everything familiar to humans and gods collapses.

Richard Wagner spent twenty-six years perfecting the final part of his Ring, from the first sketches for the scenario to the completion of the composition. The score is a fascinating blend of motifs from the entire tetralogy and offers a devastating end to the cycle. OperaVision will be live in Brussels for this new production, conducted by Alain Altinoglu and directed by Pierre Audi; the apotheosis of the Ring that has captivated La Monnaie for the last two seasons.

Beautiful! I was in the worldwide audience for this, here on Youtube that Sunday three weeks ago, and the production is really good, with scenography that looks great without appearing cluttered (somewhat inspired by Wieland Wagner's famous Bayreuth sets in the 1950s and 60s?), outstanding singers and an excellent orchestra. Bravo!! /Louise, Sweden 🎶🎵🌹🌹

Ain Anger knocks this one out of the park. One of the most difficult Bass roles in the repertoire. He's to be commended.

A great and inspired production, keeping the essence of Wagner alive. What a change from the ridiculous and vulgar German productions of late.

4:15:00 - What surprises me about Tolkien's LOTR, which uses the same mythology as Wagner (though Tolkien apocryphally said about the comparison between the two works "Both rings were round, and there the resemblance ceases"), is that he does not provide an origin for the gold used to forge the one ring. He attributes its power to Sauron's will being poured into the ring. But to me this makes much more sense. The gold is inherently powerful, imbuing the Rhine River with that divine power that makes it flow. Returning it to the Rhinemaidens restores that natural power to the river and balance to nature, and beneficence to humans.

I feel the Chereau/Boulez Ring has ruined me for life. Every production I've seen since has lacked.

No matter where in the world you listen to Wagner singing - it is never satisfying. Dramatic parts are cast with small and lyrical voices, Brimberg is a good example of this. Register is not any better.
