Everyone always talks about how they wish we could eradicate mosquitos, but if given the choice I would EASILY make all ticks disappear instead.

Good advice. A friend’s wife died of Lyme disease in her 30s after a tick bite she received while she was training herself for a marathon. It was an incredibly sad tragedy and she suffered so much during her courageous fight to live. I don’t wish this kind of death on anyone!

I didn't know they could get that small. That is terrifying knowing how sneaky they can be

The worst part about finding a tick on your body is that every itch you feel for the next several days you think is another tick.

As a tick biologist, this is all PERFECT ADVICE! Love seeing good info online. Nice job on getting the ID right too. It’s hard when they are small like that!

These diseases are devastating too, ive told people about my story with Lyme disease and how it left me amd genuinely every time they go "i didn't know it could do that, i thought it was just a rash". I have arthritis, nerve damage in both arms and legs, sleep issues, memory issues, the list goes on, i was treated 10 years ago and ive only gotten worse. It is no joke and people really need to be careful with this stuff because these ticks are getting way out of control.

I always say I’m way less scared of bears than I am of ticks in the wild…

This is why opossums are so crucial here in North america, they mass eat ticks.

I've had lymes disease twice. It's horrible. And you can barely even see the bug that gives it to you. The content of this video is life saving

Long pants, long sleeves, long socks, wide brimmed hat. Repellent on socks, around waist, on forearms and on hat. Make those bugs crawl through physical and chemical barriers!

I am literally so scared of ticks that simply hearing the word "Tick" makes me start searching by body for ticks.

As someone who got Lyme thanks for this video. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. 21 and I’ll have chronic knee pain the rest of my life.

Also, they mainly spread Lyme disease by regurgitating into the bite site. So, if one does manage to bite you, removing it without popping it (if it’s engorged) and making sure to get the head out is very important!! I recommend getting a tick key. These tools twist the tick out, reducing risk of regurgitation or damaging the tick. Using tweezers can lead to popping or ripping the body straight off the head. Also, when engorged, they become more likely to regurgitate by simply being too full so it’s best to check yourself all over and practice good hygiene by showering/bathing after being outdoors in tick habitats. Finally, if you find a tick on you and are concerned about diseases, you can keep the little sucker in a jar or plastic ziplock bag and bring it to your doctor’s office/lab to be tested. This also can help the community keep track of tick bites and the presence of diseases which helps us know the current tick population and minimize spread of disease. :) Oh, and please give outdoor pets tick prevention! There’s also a Lyme vaccine for dogs (and maybe cats? I can’t remember) that may be a good idea for dogs who spend lots of time outside. :)

One of the greatest things about being in New Zealand; no lyme disease, no rabies, no snakes, no poisonous spiders, no predators. You can nap in the grass here and not think twice.

Outstanding and pertinent video. Ticks have been so brutal this year that I'm starting to second guess myself every time I want to go for a hike. These tips help remove the hesitation
