Unaccompanied children have been coming to the United States in ever increasing numbers since 2009, with nearly 50, 000 children from Central America having arrived since October 2013. Unaccompanied children are increasingly becoming a global phenomenon, with thousands of children fleeing their homes to escape conflict and poverty.
