Join me for a walk around one of Britain's largest, fastest-growing and most energetic cities of all: Leeds! Home to five universities, at least 800,000 people, and an array of imposing architecture dating from its industrial boom, this Yorkshire hub is full of endless things to do and discover - just a small portion of which we'll cover on this walk!

On our walk around Leeds, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including Leeds Town Hall, Millennium Square, Leeds Civic Hall, Leeds City Museum (former Mechanics' Institute), Leeds Cathedral, Nicola Adams' golden postboxes, Leeds War Memorial, site of the Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2014, The Headrow, Dortmund Square, former Lewis' Department Store, Briggate, City Varieties Music Hall, Victoria Leeds, Kirkgate Market, Leeds Minster, the River Aire, Leeds Assembly Rooms, Leeds Corn Exchange, Trinity Leeds and the statue of Minerva, Holy Trinity Church, the former Griffin Hotel, The Queens Hotel, City Square, former General Post Office, statue of The Black Prince, Park Row, The Pétanque Player, Greek Street, The Headrow and Leeds Town Hall once again.

Happy New Year! And welcome to a video that I've been looking forward to for a long time, a place where I once used to live: the great city of Leeds :)

A spectacular city with as lively an atmosphere as anywhere, Leeds may not have the medieval charm of many Yorkshire destinations, but it more than makes up for that with spectacular industrial-era architecture, and so many things to see and do that you'll never be bored. On this 44-minute walk, we just about scratch the surface, but there's so much more to Leeds, from its legendary football team to its history of mining, milling and armouries!

Being an ancient ex-Yorkshire person who left UK with his parents in 1952 I have to say that I am completely in love with all things Yorkshire.

WOW, what a truly fascinating walk.
My mum was born in Castleford and as a teenager cycled to work in Leeds so as youngsters we visited often as it was only half an hour by train from Huddersfield where her familay had moved to in the 1930's, a visit to the toy department at the Lewis store was the highlight.
In 1954 I lost a leg in a road accident, my fault, so had to go to the Limb fitting centre at Chapel Allerton, in the Suez crisis in 1956 we were asked to make our own way there to save ambulance petrol.
My retired granddad would take me on the train and tram for prosthetic repairs, as a lively youngster over the years there were many, and alterations as I grew.
If we finished early we would have lunch at Winsor’s (sp) restaurant and visit the covered market.
In the late 1990’s early 2000’s as a subscriber to the uk.local.yorkshire usenet group we had many pub crawls round Leeds, many of them that are a blur.
I’ve not wandered round the centre for 20 years and your video was a bit of a shock as so much has changed.
Thanks again, keep up the good work.

Thanks for the memories. A friend and I went to Leeds back in 2014, but we didn't see as much of it as you did on this walk. I remember the city museum, which was very interesting, and we had lunch in an old bank that had been converted into a Wetherspoon's.

Really top notch. I have to say Leeds has much improved since I studied there in the 80s. Beautiful Victorian architecture.

Born and bred in Leeds but after moving away in 1988 I haven't been back since, sadly. As for the Queen's Hotel I have great memories of Friday lunches with the carvery there in the 80's. Thanks for the memories even if I hardly recognise the city now.
