As a Swiss I could have idolized many indigenous skiers in my youth, but Bode was my hero from the moment he set foot in the World Cup. I'm still riding his Atomic ProModel from time to time; hell of a ski by a hell of a rider!

Bode! Icon. Beast. Great video. But You know, I hate that last stat. Just about the Olympic medals. I’m an American, and I cannot stand that Americans don’t understand the greatness of having consistent results of the World Cup. Why don’t you put that up there? To be honest that’s what skiing’s all about. World Cup consistency. The Olympics are cool, but it pales in comparison. So here it is:
Seasons:
16 – (1998–2012, 2014)
Wins:
33
Podiums:
79
Overall titles:
2 – (2005, 2008)
Discipline titles:
6 – (2 SG, 1 GS, 3 K)

Saw him once in St. Moritz in the men's downhill. I came down most of the same course afterwards, slowly, doing LOTS of traverses, lol. But get this - the pros, like Bode, straight-line it - they never lift. Be under no illusions, you may think you’re not a bad skier, but from what I seen of Bode up close, if we tried to do the same, most of us would be totalled in minutes. The men’s downhill looks fast on TV, but up close, it is insane - truly, utterly awesome - often airborne for long distances, Bode was like a low-lying jet going past. And I remember seeing him getting onto the special competitor's chair lift, facing a run like that, sauntering along, as relaxed as if going for a stroll in the park, a little smile on his face. Delighted when he got the Olympic gold in 2010. Along with Franz Klammer, and Hermann Maier, one of my 3 fav skiers of all time.

I remember when I was a kid, I always was watching very close when Bode was skiing. His balance and sheer will to stay on track is incredible.
He may not have been the best in technique, but the commitment and will power is what made him so unique.
One of the great in his time!

Reflex response is said to come from nerves in the spine, not the brain which allows for faster response times. Bode is so quick that the response may come from even closer to his feet! ;)

you can tell by his skiing that he grew up on the boilerplate trails of cannon mt nh
