Narcan (naloxone) is an opioid antagonist used by EMTs to reverse respiratory depression caused by opioid overdose. It rapidly displaces opioids from receptors, restoring breathing within minutes.

As a 16 yr recovering addict I believe it's VERY IMPORTANT to educate the public that ALOT of possibly opioid induced overdosing patients that when you administer the nacan is YES very essential in saving their lives but as soon as it hits their system will become VERY agitated and possibly aggressive. So please keep young children away from said patient if possible and be careful not to get injured yourself. The patient is not purposely being violent or aggressive on a personal level it's just a side effect that is way to long to explain in "comments " just trust me, I know first hand it can happen. I've had 2 fingers broken, slight ly deviated septum spit on and certainly called every name that you certainly wouldn't say in church🤫
Just saying!!!!

It's essential to know how to use it yet he don't explain at all.

I got 2 shots in my cabinet from when I went to rehab. I went for alcoholism but they give them to everyone who leaves

I always say anything is possible, therefore, you could administer narcan to yourself if you are lucky enough to be coherent enough to recognise you have done too much or whatnot, and can do it in enough time before you fall out, then yes, you can narcan yourself. I wouldn't exactly get high alone, and think I could rely on myself during my own overdose, to narcan myself however. That being said...I know 2 people who claim they narcaned themselves ...and after my own overdose(s)....I cannot say for sure that had it been in my hand, I could ave indeed administered it to myself, but I was aware twice that I was overdosing.

Pretty sure people understand what's binding affinity, just tell em naxolone has stronger binding affinity to the opiate receptor compared to morphine for example.

Your content never disappoints. To many people push naloxone to try and get them to wake up. I was always taught to administer to their respiratory drive, and so you get their ROSR back, so that way as you are ventilating your patient you do not have to deal with a sudden, most often times violent, withdrawal effect.

Dang this seems like a easy fix to solving the problem. Politicians are so shitty. What’s the ingredients in narcan? Is it a steroid?

can narcan be given to a peer or administered to yourself as a preventative if say the opioid in question is in a powdered form and is floating in the air?

Obviously a single does of narcan wouldn’t cure the overdose as it just temporarily prevents the opioid from binding to the receptors, but if theres a risk of exposure can it be administered before entering the scene of the overdose or would other factors/recourses at the scene dedicate to removing the patient from the scene to remove the risk of exposure to the emt?
