Watched this with my mum and after 20 minutes she asked if it was based on a true story. I died a little that day.

There is a lot of science in both the movie and book, and it's awesome. The only major scientific inaccuracy is the storm, but that can be given the creative licence card. Sometimes, you have to ignore a few things to make the story intresting.

6:42 The rocket that exploded was not ment to rescue Mark. It was just ment to send him enough food to survive until the next planned manned mission.

The amount of money we have spent rescuing Matt Damon in movies is STAGGERING.

Some people already feel alone and lost just in the woods, a kilometer far away from the city.. now imagine what it must feel like to be 54.6 million kilometer far away from the next human being

My three fav quotes from this movie

"I will have to science the s*** out of this"

"They say that once you grow crops somewhere you've officially colonized it. So, technically, I colonized Mars. In your face Neil Armstrong"

"There is an international treaty saying 'No country can lay claim to anything that is not on Earth' and by another treaty 'If your not in any countries territory, maritime law applies' so Mars is international waters. Now NASA is an American non-military orginization, it owns the H.A.B, but the second I walk outside, I'm in international waters, so here's the cool part, I'm about to leave for the scaporelly crater where I'm going to comendere the ARIAS 4 Lander, nobody explicitly gave me permission to do this and they can't till I'm on the ARIAS 4, so that means I'm going to be taking a craft over international waters without permission, which by definition, makes me a pirate. Mark Watney, Space Pirate"

Reacting hydrogen and oxygen is basically burning hydrogen gas, except rather than using the limited amount of oxygen in the air, you're feeding the fire. That is the rosary. During combustion, oxygen is added to a molecule, which produces water in this reaction. That's how he watered the potatoes.

Such an underrated movie because it was over shadowed by Intersteller. But none-the-less. This movie still gets a 10/10 from me.

The alarms that woke up Mark were that his suit no longer had nitrogen to mix with his atmosphere and that his CO2 scrubbers were fully saturated. So he was breathing pure oxygen and the suit was "blood-letting" by venting the atmosphere to remove the CO2 while backfilling with pure oxygen again.
The greatest danger to his body was too much oxygen mixture compromising his nervous system.

Mark is a braver (and more resourceful) human than me!!!
There is no way I could perform surgery on myself like he did...I would faint just from seeing the blood everywhere, not to mention the horrific pain of being impaled!
Also...being alone on the planet...would make him the King of Mars!
