Good points! I'm no camera snob. Bought a new 128GB sd card last night from Micro Center for my trusty old Panasonic Lumix FZ35 megazoom. (A 2010 era super zoom) Put the card in, immediately got a pleasant message: TRY ANOTHER CARD. I figured the new card needs to be formatted to the camera but the camera would not allow me into any menu functions. Lovely. Here I am trying to figure it out but looking into rabbit holes along the way. Any thoughts appreciated!

Great explanation and thank you for that clarification. I’ve seen people talking about doing both. I will do the camera as it looks much easier. and besides in the computer, it makes you choose what type of file which I don’t know and some other settings which I also don’t know.

I use a SanDisk card, recently my camera has not been able to play a few videos, I never thought about formatting before until now, it's been a month, I'm going to format the SD card now. Is it fine to leave the SD card & battery in the camera when turned off?
