For the towel story. Long hair is harder to dry, having a second towel that is designed just for that purpose doesn't seem strange to me. Some of the woman in my life wrap their hair in a towel after a shower just to dry it. So yeah, taking out the hair towel just because they think it is strange is definitely an ah thing to do.

Its a towel, a towel specifically for drying hair. It's not like she carries it around like a baby blanket, its a certain item for a dedicated purpose that causes you zero issues whatsoever. I think you need to examine yourself to find out why the towel bothers you so much.

If you are literally too sick to take care of your young and/or disabled children then it's time to call the calvary! Considering how close help lived to this family, there is no excuse for not asking someone to come over to help. In this case OP's wife and her family (not the kids) are TA!

Story 2 = YTA. The reason that OP has never heard of a towel just for hair drying is that the people who have them don't talk about it. I think that I know what towel that is being talked about and it is great.

Story 5:
NTA. Being asked to vacate your room for the sake of stepsister and boyfriend, especially considering OP's situation, shows BLATANT FAVORITISM, which is very toxic behavior on the parents' part.

Story 4:
It's not like OP posted the picture all over social media for everyone to see... it was in her bathroom, away from the public, and she clearly didn't intend for MIL to see it, so I don't blame her for this mistake.
NTA

My dad is very independent. It surprised me when he asked for us to go to grief therapy after his wife died, which was also my mother. It was a wonderful, bonding experience for the two of us.

Story 2:
Yeah, OP, you messed up. BADLY.
So what if your girlfriend has a whole ritual to take care of her hair? If anything, the fact that she's bringing her own towels means the parents won't have to spare their own for her.
You, on the other hand, completely disrespected her and violated her privacy by messing with her suitcase. She has every right to be angry at you.

OP is the jerk
for unpacking his girlfriends towel. It's her darn towel and it's in her suitcase. OP doesn't own his girlfriend or her towel...leave her the heck alone and stop trying to control her. You are her boyfriend....not her overlord.

1st story: While it's sad that OP's sister and BIL lost their children and nearly lost the sister as well, they are not doing anyone, especially themselves any favors by not trying to move on. They will never forget that day, nor should they, but the pain will only lessen if they get jobs, move back out on their own and continue with their lives. But quite frankly if their mother is so worried about sister and BIL, maybe it's time they move in with her. OP, you're NTA!

Do not touch the hair towel. They're usually a microfibre one that is specific for drying hair, and she won't want his nasty dead skin flakes all over it. I'm with the GF on this one.

MIL story: NTA, it’s her wedding photo, she can do with it what she wants. She keeps it in a place where no one else would see it as an added courtesy

Story 2: Sorry, OP, but a towel specifically for hair is definitely a thing — and a fairly common thing at that. I’ve had hair towels since my first (made by my mom) in high school and that was a time ago (40 yrs!!).They have improved since then — lucious microfiber now! A hair towel helps hair dry faster, can be used when using a hair mask, and for me, it is a must when I have dyed hair. It keeps me from ruining nice towels! Time for OP to apologize. Just ask her the next time you are uncertain why she is doing something a certain way.

First story, it's been 3 years with them NOT getting therapy and making efforts to reclamate, if they had been trying but still weren't able, then in my opinion would just barely be a yta call, but with them not trying its a strong nta call, there is a fine line but after a horrific accident people need time but they also need professional help, they can't expect to get a free ride for life because of it

Yeah it was her towel, and you have zero rights to take it from her, PERIOD of what you think. Let's say you had a pair of lucky boxers that you only wear on important days. For instance a job interview, your birthday, yearly job review, and/or any important days. She takes them from your drawer and puts them elsewhere because of the same reasons you've given for removing her towel. How would you react??? What does it matter to you if she has a specific towel for her hair? It doesn't effect you at all.

It's OP's wedding photos that she PAID for. The photo was in her own bathroom. It wasn't displayed on the front page of a newspaper. She could of told the photographer to not fix the photos up at all, and just leave them as is. The DIL PAID FOR PHOTOGRAPHY!!!! If the MIL wasn't sleeping with her almost ex, while he had a GF. There would of been not ink on any photos to begin with.

Story 1 - the only reason I'd say OP is TA would be mentioning so they can have kids since his sister lost all of hers. But, he is NTA for asking for his house back so he can progress with his life.
Story 2 - as someone with a hair towel, OP is TA. It's just a towel. It's just like how some people prefer to take their pillow on vacation.
Story 3 - NTA. What the mother did, or didn't do in this case, is straight up abuse. She should have been straight forward with her husband that she couldn't feed the kids or she could have called for help. Hell, she could have used door dash or something so the kids had food.

I agree with all of your decisions about who is or is not the jerk, Steven.
