Your tutorials are at the very top and among the best. I wish the folks attempting to do their own tutorials would watch YOURS first, so they could learn how to instruct, not just draw fast while "winging it". You not only display WHAT to do, you're meticulous enough to include the vital ingredient . . HOW. Well done, and Thank You for your work!

Excellent. I imagine that the next in your series would be how to extend a selected object by selecting the tool that created it. For example, selecting a rectangle then clicking on the rectangle tool would show an inner frame that has squares and dots at the corners. Dragging these squares and circles provide very basic operations, with or without pressing the Ctrl key. Took me hours to find hints like that to help me learn how to do the same basic operations available in all drawing tools. Inkscape frequently has its own quirks one must learn. Example: if you happen to use the Object Properties pane to lock an object in place, or hide it, you must take an extra step to click the "Set" button, or nothing will happen (ver. 1.0 and previous). Anyway, I loved this video and learned for my own tutorials to speak the key slowly before pressing it, so the person viewing doesn't get lost.

Refering to the part that starts at 4:00: you can also use the XML view to easily determine which object is selected (i use it all the time), just press Shift + Ctrl + X to get to the XML view.

Good tips, good voice and nice didactics. This last item (didactics) is hard to find on the net.

@EmptyMellon
The only method that I can think of, which would allow a single object to have multiple stroke widths, would be to clip the object after it is created. The Clip function is available under the Object menu. Clipping would be difficult to get just right, however, unless the stroke were very thick.

Thank you so very much, your presentation is very well paced and clear. I was so happy to find an alternative to Illustrator and your videos have made it much easier to take advantage of Inkscape.

Thank you for the tutorial I'm such a newb at this. I seriously can't get the nodes of my Raster design to break away without distorting the rest of the image. 😂

Thanks, I've been working with Inkscape for a while, but didn't know about all the ways to select. BTW, love that clock, and would love to see a tut about creating the clock. Thanks. I always learn sth new when I watch your videos.

I'm using Inkscape 1.0.2 and I can't seem to find out how to change the selector colour of the dashed lines when you select an object. I was using a previous developer version for MAC OS for performance issues, but they have now fixed that and so I upgraded to the latest stable version. In the dev version, the selected object rendered a black dashed line as does in your video, but on the latest version, they are blue. For reference, the lines I am talking about are shown here @0:45.

Is there an option to "treat all objects as filled"? If an object has a fill set to "none", I want to be able to still select and drag it the same way I would if the object has a fill, say white. The default setting is that you can't select an object with no fill simply by clicking inside the object. You have to click the sides of the object. Same with dragging it. Your mouse has to be on one of the visible sides. You can imagine how this even becomes more difficult if both the fill and the stroke is set to none.
