Whether you love or hate Spam, there is no denying that it’s a versatile food item that you can do a lot with. If you ever need to spruce up your fried rice, just add some Spam, and you’ve got yourself a hearty and carb-filled meal.

You can even melt it with your favorite cheese in a quesadilla or roll it up into sushi, if you are not a fan of fish. This canned meat has been making it into households since the 1930s, and it will not slow down anytime soon.

However, there is actually more to Spam than you know about. It has quite the history, so let's take a look at what you should know about Spam.

I had a frightening email yesterday warning me about eating pork. Then I realised it was just Spam.

I fell in love with spam when I was around 4th to 5th grade when my cousin was cooking it on a skillet at our grandma's house. It smelled so good when he was cooking It. He asked me if I want some and I said yeah. It was SO good. Spam, rice and siracha sauce. You can't go wrong with that.

I just tried spam for the first time today. I was actually kinda scared considering how many people seemed to hate it, but I fried it up, put it some bread and was pleasantly surprised. I got 12 slices out of 1 regular can and put 2 on the sandwich. That’s six meals for about $3.50, which I don’t think is that bad.

One of my best friends is Hawaiian and for his birthday I bought him a Reeses peanut butter cake with two cans of spams on the side as decor. He loved it so much lol

Spam is delicious when fried & put on toasted white bread. Topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, & heavy mayo. I wouldn't eat it everyday, but it's a nice treat to remind me of childhood lunches.

I eat it everyday but in moderation. Goes nice with my scrambled eggs, toasted bread, onions, peppers and garlic 😀

I'm 61 yrs old and I've been enjoying SPAM for at least 55 of them. My grandmother fried it for breakfast with other meats like sausage and bacon. I love it with my eggs and toast and on white bread and miracle whip. Spam I am and will always be.

A Spamwich is tight. Thin sliced onion and Dijon mustard on whatever bread you have around. A very guilty pleasure.

As a Guamanian, I can attest to the popularity on the island of Guam. A big reason, also, is that frequent typhoons cause extensive, island-wide power outages. The island sometimes loses power for weeks. So, it makes an awesome survival food...

Spam is a favorite food of Hawaiians many got hooked on it since WW2 when food was a bit scarce. It has found its way into many of the different cuisines on the Islands. I like it for its convenience and its salty taste and ham like texture that pairs perfectly in a Frittata with onions eggs potatoes and green peppers for Sunday morning breakfast or a Late Supper. It's also a good camping staple needing no refrigeration until its open. It is quite reasonable in price and one can serve 4 as an accompaniment to eggs home fries and toast. I always have a can in the pantry for a quick meal. Enjoy.

Put a slice of Spam in a skillet. No need for oil. Fry up the Spam until the edges are crunchy and almost black. Put on a slice of American cheese. Put on toasted white bread and you have one of the best breakfast sandwiches EVER.

I was taught that "Spam" was short for "Spiced Ham". Maybe that was just PR.

I’m from Hawaii and grew up eating spam my whole life. Frying it at home, packing it for lunch in a musibi, or in fried rice. Spam is amazing but also expensive. It’s like $4 a can

Soldiers at war couldn't always get a home cooked meal. Really? Gee, I never knew that.
