The requirements for improved medical treatment using novel and innovative drug substances have also a challenging impact on the manufacture of pharmaceutical drugs. Injectable suspensions are colloid formulations that provide a depot effect of the drug of interest for homogenous and prolonged application. However the requirement to use sterile and often high potent APIs for aseptic manufacture of suspensions, which are also sensitive to heat treatment, heavily impacts on the required technical equipment and on the manufacturing process. Here, we give an example of a manufacturing process for suspensions that includes the use of high potent and sterile APIs, aseptic compounding, and aseptic filling, which can also be applied for the manufacture of drug products containing hormones.
