(from Wikipedia)

Since early June 2020, floods have severely impacted large tracts of southern China due to heavy rains caused by the regional rainy season, primarily around the Yangtze basin and its tributaries, with rains expected to hit central and eastern China during July, described as the worst since at least 1998.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Management, by the end of June flooding had displaced 744,000 people across 26 provinces with 81 people missing or dead. As of 13 August, the floods have affected 63.46 million people and caused a direct economic loss of 178.96 billion CNY, which are 12.7% and 15.5% higher than the 2015-2019 average, respectively. 219 people were found died or are missing, and 54,000 houses collapsed, which are 54.8% and 65.3% lower than the 2015-2019 average, repsectively. The Ministry of Water Resources said that a total of 443 rivers nationwide have been flooded, with 33 of them swelling to the highest levels ever recorded. According to statistics from the National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA), 76 key national cultural relics and 187 provincial cultural heritage sites have suffered damage of varying degrees.

Affected regions include Guangxi, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hubei, and Chongqing. The regions include the upper and middle river basin of the Yangtze and its tributaries. With more rain, floods started to extend to lower regions of the Yangtze basin such as Anhui, Jiangxi, and Zhejiang. Hunan, Fujian, and Yunnan were also affected.

It's getting real over here! But is it ACTUALLY flooding in downtown Chengdu? Let's see!

Doh! Made a small mistake! Putting out a correction: the Anshun Bridge - the big, fancy one I pointed out - crosses the Fuhe / Fu River. Don't know why I said the Jin River. My bad!!

Actually, the place you are visiting, I was staying there 20+ years ago. There was a flood in 1980s, a new An Shun bridge was broken, it hadn't fully in operation yet, and quite number of people on the bridge was looking at the flood, many of them dead.

Is there any relationship between ice melting and excessive rain and flood?

One of our Chinese teachers just wrote about the hardest-hit areas of Jiangxi, Hunan, and Guizhou. It's so intense but the flood hero workers are doing an amazing job. Stay safe from the fast-moving water, Austin.

My old running route! I think it was Tuesdays and Thursdays when they dumped rotting debris into the water just before the upper bridge. It was putrid smelling, and I'd have to run away from the river to escape it. Such a shame.

I have a friend who is from Chengdu named Shi Qiu. He was an exchange student who came to Canada this past school year. All the exchange students were sent home though because of COVID, so I never got to say bye. I have no way of contacting him either, because of social media regulations. I believe he is from Donghu Park.

Glad to see your videos again. you make me think how fast time passes. When I was an undergraduate student in Hubei, I found your channel from Weibo. You shared your life in Lanzhou. The last video I saw was you found a new job at my university, from where I got my master degree. Now I saw your video again, I am in UK now. 太伤感了,时间过得真快!
