So here's a novel idea, if you don't have the facilities to treat the patient YOU REFER THEM TO SOMEWHERE THAT DOES rather than sending them home

If they aren't comfortable just damn admit it and send them elsewhere for proper treatment. Stop giving the run around. Period.

Hogwash. Allergic reactions are a basic care situation. If a hospital doesn't have the expertise to deal with a situation they will stabilize you before transporting to a more appropriate facility.

Before pain pills they should have considered antihistamines or steroids. If an ER isn't equipped to handle first aid situations they shouldn't have an ER.

Epidemic of incompetency folks. It's everywhere.

A lot of physicians don’t treat male and female pain tolerance the same, women are expected to be able to tolerate a higher lever of pain than men. And their’s the ones who think everyone is just trying to get hands on narcotics.
I’ve experienced it.

Why is the patient supposed to be the expert in evaluating where they can receive adequate care? Absolutely unacceptable that the ER/hospital isn't transferring a patient they can't handle.

Cuz if there’s anything insurance loves & supports, it’s you seeing multiple providers for the same complaint.

Limited resources but a 6 hour visit to the hospital with 4 hours of waiting room and two ibuprofen is $1, 100

if i show up with a condition so bad the hospital is afraid to treat it they better stick me in the next ambulance and send me off to the next hospital that is able to
if a hospital can't take care of me i sure can't take care of myself at home either

Unfortunately I've found there's a lot of bias in the medical field when it comes to male and female patients.
I went to the ER knowing I was in kidney failure again. I explained my symptoms to the nurse who looked at me and said you seem fine to me. The gentleman in the ER was there because he hit his hand with a hammer. He was pulled into the back and given a bed.
They came out and drew blood on me and took a urine sample. I expressed I'm in a lot of pain and she said she'd ask the doctor if I could have Tylenol.
4 hours later they put me in the ICU for 10 days. The pain I was experiencing was from infection and stage 5 kidney failure.
They had every intention of fast tracking me out and completely ignored what I was saying.

If you can afford it, don't let the emergency room be the last place you get care for something. They are generalists. My dad got a concussion and they sent him home to rest. Turns out there was a lot more that could be done, which we were able to track down for him. An emergency room doctor once diagnosed me with a sprained toe that was broken, on and on. They will keep you alive and thank God they exist. But they aren't specialists and they can't give you the time to go in depth on your case.

Yep! I had an abscessed tooth that was really bad. The whole left side of my face was the size of a softball and my eye was swollen shut. I went to a dentist and they wouldn't do anything for me unless I agreed to get surgery with them. I left the dentist and went to an Urgent Care (I had a red vein going down my neck, a sign of infection in blood). They gave me an antibiotic but nothing for pain. The next day I went to the ER, the pumped me with antibiotics and pain meds and drained the absess there. 2 days later I went to a different dentist and they were completely astonished by the actions of the first dentist and urgent care. I had immediate surgery to remove a bone fragment that caused the infection.
Moral of the story is, don't trust the first word you're given if you feel the treatment is subpar if that.
My life was at risk. My gutt instinct and turning to people that actually cared are what saved me.
Being upset about people not doing their jobs isn't going to stop this from happening.
Do your due diligence.

All fine and well except most can’t afford one emergency room trip let alone a second one because the first had inadequate care.

ER is for barfing, bleeding, or broken. They keep you alive. Everything else, just save your time and money. Go to UC or your PCP.

seriously...it also depends on the doctors on duty...one time I asked repeatedly after an accident for a neck scan because I had a prior fracture in my neck...all they did was treat my wrist break...I had to go back the next day because my hand swelled up so bad that I couldn't feel it...well I also asked for a neck scan when I was back in there...they were horrified that the night before they didn't put me in a neck brace or do any scans...because it was protocol...they pulled my chart to find out who was on duty for them to be reprimanded...they also reprimanded the front because they didn't consider my situation urgent...so I waited 3+ hours...and if that cast was on an hour longer...they said it wouldn't have been good...they asked why I didn't come in hours ago...I told them I did...I was in the waiting room 🤷‍♀️
