Fun fact: the first assassin forgot that the grenade had a 10 second timer and tried to kill himself with cyanide that ended up being too old to kill him. He tried to kill himself again by jumping in a river that ended up being 4 inches deep

Austria Hungary didn't declare war directly but made a long list of demands on Serbia that the had to follow and begrudgingly the could accept all but one, that Austria Hungary police could act with full jurisdiction in Serbia.
No nation would accept such terms and Austria Hungary knew that, then war was declared.

I love how calm the driver is when the bomb is thrown

Didnt it go more like this. The bomb missed and civilians were injured but Ferdinand made it to his destination to meet the mayor, then after giving a speech he went to the hospital to visit the people injured. But his driver who was not familiar with the area took a wrong turn and they encountered Princep who shot both of then

*Gavrilo Princip while eating a sandwich in a cafeteria: Oh god, I can’t believe I actually missed the opportunity of killing the Archduke Ferdinand. Oh well, I might as well call it a day and go home.*

*The Archduke’s car stopping right in front of the Cafeteria*

*Gavrilo Princip: **_What a twist!_*

What actually happened was the first attempt failed because when the bomb hit the bonnet and stayed there until the driver quickly hit it off. It hit civilians instead. The assassin jumped into the river to drown himself but was quickly captured alive. The Archduke and his wife were rushed to the safe point but after reaching there the Archduke wanted to visit the civilians who got injured by the bomb so the people who were looking after them agreed but decided for them to take the longer trip just in case there were more assassins waiting for them. Unfortunately, no one had told the driver so he went the via the short route. What is even more unfortunate is that the driver made a wrong turn. The driver quickly realised this and began to turn around next to a cafe where a young assassin was sitting glumly as he was the only one in the group who knew that the plan had failed as the rest only heard the explosion. He soon looked up to find his target right in front of him and quickly pulled out his gun. He aimed for the Archduke and got him but one of the bullets hit the car and bounced off and straight into the gut of his wife. The Archduke, with major wounds himself, was reported to say something along the lines of "Don't die. Think about the children" before soon dying. His wife was rushed to hospital but died there. When WWI started Princip stated that if he knew that this was the outcome, he wouldn't have done it. Princip was left to rot in jail.

Franz Ferdinand Carl Ludwig Joseph Maria (18 December 1863 – 28 June 1914) was an Archduke of Austria-Este, Austro-Hungarian and Royal Prince of Hungary and of Bohemia and, from 1896 until his death, heir presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian throne.

His assassination in Sarajevo precipitated Austria-Hungary's declaration of war against Serbia.

This caused the Central Powers (including Germany and Austria-Hungary) and Serbia's allies to declare war on each other, starting World War I.

One man with one gun can change history. Princip didn't need a shooter on the rooftop, a shooter in the crowd, a shooter in a boat passing on the river. One man, one gun.

I just discovered this channel. I've used it in my class already. Good work you have my support. I show some of the other shows that pack as much information into 8 to 10 mins and sometimes that is overwhelming to some students. The "simple" animated reenactments with the story telling style of delivery is what I needed to work into my instruction.

They were not members of the Black Hand (also known as Unification or Death), but of Young Bosnia. They were not just Serb nationalists, they wanted to liberate Bosnia and Herzegovina from Austro-Hungarian occupation. Their motives were not just nationalistic but also social and economic because Austro-Hungary was exploiting Bosnia and Herzegovina as it were a colony.

This event singlehandedly decided the fate of the 20th century. WW1, Collapse of 4 empires, Inter-War, WW2, Collapse of Colonialism, Korean, Vietnam war, Cold war
