The BEST Online Japanese Textbook??

Is this the BEST online Japanese textbook? I'll let you guys make that decision as we go through this genuinely surprising Japanese textbook! "Irodori: Japanese for Life in Japan" [いろどり:生活の日本語] is a FREE online textbook for N5-N4/A1-A2 Japanese according to it's publishing company: The Japanese Foundation! It's available for all Japanese language enthusiasts boasting over 1,000 pages between both elementary level books with some pretty impressive stats.

But is it all it's cracked up to be? Is this a worthy replacement for your physical Japanese textbook, or just another online sideshow with good intentions? I give you my honest thoughts on this week's Japanese resource review!

4:00 I think Chad got it reversed, the data makes more sense if it's the pass/fail rates for the JLPT. For example, 43.1% of participants at the A2 level passed the N1 JLPT which improves to 57.5% passing the N1 test at the B2 level.

Great video but there are also 2 more books that are set to be released soon: a starter a1 book and a more advanced book, so it's unfair to compare the content just now.

Wow, what a great resource! Irodori plus (Genki or Minna No Nihongo) would be really cool to build a solid foundation for someone starting out.
Hopefully it will become more well know.

That google-translation-ish weird sentence made me a little bit anxious...Anyway I downloaded them.
Actually their contents are excellent and I'm enjoying it except for the inconvenience of hearing voices.
I always have to read pdf, simultaneously find an mp3 file and open it for every topic. I know I shouldn't complain cuz it's absolutely free. Thank you for the informative video.

I think that this is a pretty interesting textbook! I have to look at it myself. The みなと website/ Marugoto book sets up similarly from what I can recall (bilingual text) given that its from the same place, Japan Foundation. I like the European Framework and the Can do type statements. And its free?! I would love to see what they'll have in the B1/B2 segment when they complete it.

Great review. And these books sound pretty great. Without having looked at the website yet, my guess is that these people are going to work their way up to the highest C2 level eventually. And if that all remains free, then that's No one wanting to learn Japanese will have an excuse not to at that point.

This video needs an update. There are 3 Irodori books now.
