His voice is powerful and tender, compelling and entrancing, , commanding and begging, conceited and crushed at the same time. This is my favorite phantom performance.

Saw him in Toronto when phantom first began. He's absolutely incredible. After him no other was good enough

Had no idea Colm Wilkenson played The Phantom. He is so expressive it must have been very emotional!

Wow! 🎼 have never heard Colm Wilkensons version of "Music of the Night"...It was SO beautiful and powerful yet seductively tender and poingant at the same time. Even with your eyes closed you can feel and hear the raw almost "tortured" emotion the Phantom is exuding as he sings! I saw Michael Crawford in The Phantom of the Opera twice in L.A. my first time in 1989 and again in 1990. After seeing and hearing Michaels breathtaking rendition of The Phantom, I could never even palette listening to any other singers' versions! They don't even come close to the majesty of Michaels voice; but now after watching and then again listening to Colm's performance first with my eyes open and then again with them closed, I actually truly believe he was better much better at evoking what Andrew Lloyd Weber wanted to portray in his Phantom. I still think Michael Crawford will ALWAYS be the original and best overall phantom but Colm's performance of "Music of the Night" was so entrancing and emotional that it gave me chills, goosebumps and tears! Bravo, bravo Colm!! 😊❤❤❤

I was completely unaware of Colm Wilkinson's performance here! Thank you so much for sharing it -- I had a positively visceral reaction to the depth and scope of his voice -- It brought me to tears! Tremendous! My only regret is that I never heard him in person in the role! If it weren't for your post I doubt I would have found the performance to enjoy!
Thanks again!

Thanks Matt.
I’ve seen three versions - Toronto, London and New York.
Colm in Toronto was unbelievable !
His voice can be powerful and overwhelming. And in another instance it can be gently piercing and haunting.

Never heard this range in any actor-singer anywhere.

I saw Colm play the Phantom in Toronto. I don’t remember Michael Ball being Raul, but perhaps this was the London Cast.
