A Kirsten Inspired Christmas: American Girl Recipes & Crafts from 1854 | Cozy Cooking Vlog

Come step in my little prairie kitchen and immerse yourself in childhood nostalgia with the historical characters from American Girl. In this video, I am stepping back in time to 1854 and playing out what the holidays might have been like for one of the original Pleasant Company dolls, Kirsten Larson. I was even lucky enough to find my own Kirsten doll from the late 90s in storage along with her outfits and accessories.

In today's episode, I am introducing a new series where I will be showcasing the world of my own historical American Girl dolls. In this series, I hope to share my love of history by remaking the recipes from the American Girl cookbooks and trying out the tutorials from the American Girl craft books. We also made a Kirsten outfit with a historically accurate dress pattern and I was lucky enough to try out an 1860s gored corset!

I hope that you enjoy this nostalgic episode and that it inspires you bake or cook something this weekend reminiscent of the food from Kirsten's world. If anything, I hope that it brings back some happy childhood memories of playing with your own dolls.

my mother in law was a school teacher and the last day of school every year she took the kids to a pioneer day recreation village(in california near her school), she made all the kids either bonnets or felt hats. she had a outfit she sewed her self of he own just like Kirsten's. when my mother in law retired (40years of teaching) she was gifted a Kirsten doll by her students. when I had her first grand daughter (after 3 boys) she promised to give it to her when she turned 13. My daughter received the doll and all the books for Kirsten and the books for the other history dolls at the time. My daughter is 25 now and lives on her own and has Kirsten proudly displayed with my daughter own bonnet to match. My mother in law passed 5years ago when my daughter was 20 and still in college. When my daughter graduated both jr and university college Kirsten walked with her in my daughters arms.

In 1992 I had to have a difficult surgery. The ladies in my bible study all chipped in and presented me with a Kirsten doll. My daughter already had Molly MacIntyre. I treasured Kirsten for many years. Seven years ago my then 9 year old granddaughter was visiting from Texas.( I live in So. Calif). When it was time for her to leave for home she cried and cried. I asked her if it would comfort to take Kirsten home to Texas with her and of course she tearfully said yes. Now when I visit my Texas family I get to see Kirsten too❤

Watching your mom make the outfit brought back such a sweet memory for me. My dad was a Civil War re-enactor and in the mid 90’s he sewed me a time period dress, complete with hoop skirt, and a camp dress for when our family spent weekends at the re-enactments. ❤️

Beautiful video! Kirsten was my favorite AG and my only doll. I got her in 1993 and still have all her original accessories too.

The style of painting that is/was popular in Scandinavia is called “rosemaling”. It’s a very unique form of painting that uses zero stencils. 😊

Thanks for sharing!

I always wanted an an American Girl Doll, but we didn’t have enough money for them growing up. Thank you for showing us her. You have taken amazing care of your dolls. I don’t think I would have done the same as a kid.

American Girl dolls were always so beautiful. I remember getting catalogs in the mail showcasing the dolls and stories, but we could not afford them. I remember my best friend in Elementary school had Kit.

I always wanted those dolls but we couldn't afford them. My best friend had about four or five of them in the early to mid 1990s and had beds for them and clothes. I thought they were fun. Everything looks so cute. I remember when Addy came out and I wanted her the most because Harriet Tubman is my hero and I work to fight modern day slavery today, so it figures.
You having these dolls kinda explains why you do what you do here today! It is really neat how in a way, they are inspiration to your adult self. Do they even still sell the Kristen doll anymore? I love how you matched her in this video. I love your bloomers! So cute! Your mom is very talented. I make quilts and have only ever sewn a 1940s petticoat and 1940s dress and then little things here and there to wear. I am definitely more into quilting. That is so cool you have the same initials as Kristen. I was telling my husband the other day how I learned about St. Lucia day from the girls at school who had the American dolls (and read the books which I never did ahhh). He never heard og it. I loved this video! What a sweet baby you have by the way!

I live just outside Madison. My sister-in-law and niece would go to the American Girl warehouse sale every summer. We loved the dolls and especially the story books. My mother love Samantha so of course we bought it for her. Never did you see so many well behaved young ladies waiting in line for the sale to begin. Thank you for sparking a lovely memory for me. 🙏❤️

I still have my original Kirsten doll, and accessories. Good memories. Thanks for this. Also, if anyone is interested, and not aware, they also have similar dolls for the UK where I used to live. British historical dolls. They are called A Girl For All Time, and are SO beautiful! We collect them.

I am the youngest of three girls. Growing up in the 90s, we had an American Girl doll each. Mine was Kirsten ❤

It makes it really interesting to get to know all the ingredients that you are adding to your bowl, ie: when you 😢re mixing all of your ingredients: butter/ sugar/eggs/cheese/all purpose flour/ etc, everyone knows those items but the REST I do not know them at all!

I am so glad I found your Vlog!! I too had a Kirsten doll and loved her so much. I did not get any of the accessories, however. I am 86 yrs old and this brought back so many memories!

AH! LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!! Y'all did such a great job recreating the dress, and it was so much fun to see you make the recipes from the cookbook! I also really enjoyed getting to see your Kirsten doll and all of her accessories! American Girl dolls were also the main gift I was given by my grandma for all birthdays and Christmas celebrations. 💙💙💙💙

I love how you care for your doll <3 I just bought my two year old daughter her first american girl bitty baby and she loves her! I bought her vintage from ebay because american girl was made more tenderly in the past. I love this concept and series:)
