My mother died at a water park in Texas in 2012. In a small canal that went around the park but got choppy in one space. My life has never been the same and I also have a deep regret of that day. Parents and people in general please take precautions because the water parks are not as regulated as we think. Prayers for her family. 🙏

This is such a sad tragedy. For those blaming the parents, I didn't hear in the report that the parents were present. The young lady could have been there with someone else. Regardless, I'm sure the parents or whomever was there with her are all ready feeling guilty enough. For those encouraging parents to teach their children to swim at an early age; that's a great idea. To others, be kind, sympathetic, and compassionate. This family needs prayers, kind words, and love. Nobody is perfect. Accidents happen every day. It could happen to you.

This is a parent's worst nightmare. When I was a kid, the swimming pools I went to were only 3ft deep for safety reasons. And all of the signs clearly stated, "No Diving."

These accidents are exactly why I'm so paranoid to take my family to these theme/water parks. They are not as regulated as we would hope they are. My family thinks I'm too worried, but I can't imagine going for a fun outing as a family and end up coming home with one less person. My heart breaks for this girl's family.

This is literally my worst nightmare. Yesterday I looked away for just a second on the beach when my canopy came unstaked and I had to secure it back. I looked back and my 12 year old just wasn't there anymore. I ran to the edge of the water and his boogie board was laying there covered in sand and looking as though it had washed in. I can't even describe the feeling I had in that moment and just as I was about to run into the water and look for him, he ran back out from inside the condo. Somehow I hadn't seen him run past me to go inside.
My son is basically part dolphin and I am obsessively vigilant around water but anything can happen and it only takes a second. This can even happen to adults, not just children.
I will never forget that feeling as long as I live - it was honestly the worst few moments of my life - and I can't even imagine how the parents are handling this. Offering condolences isn't enough. There are no words for this, in either of those children's cases.

When I was a young child living in West Germany in the 80’s we had Mandatory swimming lessons. Why isn’t this a thing here?

Just to put it out there, why the hell is the water so deep anyway? Anyone could drown in 8ft of water. It’s still enjoyable at 5’5 or 6ft.

I just don’t understand how and why this poor girl wasn’t found quicker. Why did it take 30 minutes??
