I’m a btec student and I got into university of York which is a Russel group uni. I agree with him because I knew I always wanted to go to a good uni but also wanted to take a different approach to education. So by doing that it did restrict my choices.

Those who laugh at BTEC don’t realise that majority are going into engineering and medicine. Which is funny because the workload has more coursework and exams than A levels. I haven’t got many people in my degree (which i will complete this May) and in masters degree in construction project management/civil engineering most cane through BTEC as it is far more technical and professional in STEM subject

You know what's ass? When universities expect two A levels alongside an extended diploma

I finished high school with really good grades I got a level 8 in maths but I decided to do btech Engineering as I wanted to become an engineer and k thought at the time it would be better for me. I ended up getting D*D*D* it was so easy for me I've now gotten a place at a Russell group undoing civil Engineering and I wish I had done A levels because a lot of the maths is A level maths in more detail and I cant help but compare myself to the A level students around who who have come into the course with a lot more knowledge in the maths a physics side of civil Engineering. However, I know I will be able to do the maths if I put double the effort and practice. Practice is key. In conclusion I got into one of the top unis in England wth the least amount of effort and if I was to go back in time I would choose A level as i would be equipped with a lot more knowledge.

Basically, BTEC is extreme workload and you have tons of essays, projects, presentations, field work and some exams. Many unis i been to actually prefer people with BTEC background since they are proficient in every aspect of academia. It is the best route into STEM subjects

Reading between the lines, it sounds like Russell Group universities do not want BTEC qualified students.

I skipped A/L's and completed my HND in Computing way back in 2005. The best decision I ever made simply because I was able to fast track my education towards the direction of my interest and get employed. I was offered internship at Avast where I worked for 10 years.

I own a global IT firm now providing solutions for notable companies.

No, I didn't complete a degree. It took me my HND and a lot of hard work 😉.

Son taking a mixture of A level & BTEC. Ideally he wanted to do BTEC extended unfortunately his 6th form didn't offer it. I'm a fan of BTEC I did BTEC & went to uni. The end results is the same to get to uni. I was very good on the practical side hence why BTEC was the better option for me

My cousin suggested me to do a BTEC instead of A-Levels as himself found them hard and thinks they’ll be too hard for me and that he was able to go to university and graduate. I’m not a very academic person myself to be honest and for my GCSEs, I’m not aiming for high grades, minimum grade 4 or 5 atleast for me

i do 4 alevels chemistry physics further maths and maths. So yh im on a whole different spectrum. Tbh people should try out alevels for the first month and if you dont like it then chose btec courses.

Not sure why I watching this after I just finished my level 3 btec course (bloody crazy), possibly getting D*D*D. Like sure ok. Also this course was the best choice I ever made, used to get low grades at GCSE and now getting very high grades. going to university this September. I was planning to go to another university but it just stated that they dont accept btec, so their lose I guess 🤣
