The North East region of India is known for its rich culture and diversity, which is reflected in its handicrafts and handlooms. The seven sister states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Meghalaya are home to a diverse range of indigenous communities, each with its unique traditions, customs and crafts.

As I walked in with my sister and brother into the Mati Centre in Guwahati, they were greeted by the sight of beautiful handcrafted items made by artisans from across the North East. They had come here to buy gifts for their professor for Eid, and they knew that the Maati Center would offer them a range of unique and high-quality products.

The store was filled with a vibrant display of handwoven fabrics, intricately designed pottery, delicate bamboo craft, and exquisitely crafted jewelry. The siblings were amazed by the range of products on offer, each one telling a story of its own. They could see the hard work and dedication of the artisans who had created these beautiful products.

As they explored the store, they learned about the different crafts and techniques used by artisans in the North East. They were particularly impressed by the intricate weaving techniques used to create the traditional Assamese silk sarees, and the delicate embroidery work on the shawls and stoles from Manipur.

They knew that these unique gifts would be cherished by their professor and would remind her of the rich cultural heritage of the North East.

As they walked out of the store, my siblings felt a sense of pride in the rich cultural heritage of their region. They realized that the Mati Centre was not just a store but a platform that showcased the talent and creativity of the artisans from across the North East. They felt grateful for the opportunity to support these talented artisans and preserve the rich cultural heritage of their region.
