In JavaScript, setTimeout() and setInterval() are used to time execution of code at specific intervals.

The setTimeout method calls a function after a specified number of milliseconds. Additional parameters can also be passed to the function.

The setInterval() method is very similar, except it will run continually until it is either cleared or the window is closed. It too can accept additional parameters to be passed to the function.

Both methods can be stopped by using clearTimeout() and clearInterval() accordingly.

This will be the last #JavaScriptJanuary video of 2020. Unfortunately I do not have the power to extend the month of January more than 31 days ;)

But don't worry! There will be more videos in the 90 second series weekly throughout 2020!! Stay tuned..

It's better to do "console.log(++counter)" so that the timer will show "1" after 1 second has passed.
If you wish to stop at exactly 5, better to do "if(counter=5)"
Great work, got another sub

I want to write a code, which has a function with one argument as a number, and returns me double the number after 5 sec. How to write it using settimeout?

The examples at 1:13 and 1:28 should have used "++counter" instead of "counter++" to properly show the number of counts/calls.

I have tried to use async await on this two to emulate an animated slideShow and for some reason the await statement doesn't work as it should be
