Lyrics:
I’ve been ‘normal’
I’ve been ostracized
I’ve watched through a window
As my young self dies
I’ve been popular
With all the popular guys
I gave them punchlines
They gave me warning signs

I look okay
In the magic hour
In the right light
With the right amount of power
And I’m okay
With the life of the sunflower
And I’m okay
With the life of a meteor shower

So say what you will
Go on (Say what you will)
You’re gonna do it anyway
Go on
Just (Say what you will)
You’re gonna do it anyway
Go on
Just (Say what you will)
Go on
You’re gonna do it anyway
Say what you will

I can find my way
With no superpowers
I can take my place
Without becoming sour
I might not make
All those psychopaths proud
‘Least I can see the faces
Of the smaller crowds

And I’m okay
I can drive myself
I’ve been sobered
By time on the shelf
And I’ve been ‘normal’
I’ve been ostracized
Like a comet
Blazing through an empty sky

So say what you will
Say (Say what you will)
Say what you will
Say (Say what you will)

So say what you will
Say (Say what you will)
Say what you will
Say what you will
Say what you will
Say (Say what you will)

(Say what you will)
(Say what you will)

The message is: in our heads everyone is doing better than us. Only when you start to focus and admire yourself you will get free.

this is "you vs the guy she told you not to worry about" as a music video

Notice when Finneas passes James at 4:17, he doesn’t even notice all the posters and magazines promoting himself. Finneas probably has another celebrity he’s comparing himself to and isn’t grateful about his own success.

Crazy to think one of the most legendary musical geniuses thinks and feels this way, but I guess we’re all human. Love you James.

I could cry; this is almost as good as Finneas' productions.

This guy’s voice feels like a mom’s hug. Well done, Mr. Blake.

This is the most positive James Blake song I’ve heard. It’s all about acceptance ‘I’m ok with the life of a sunflower’ is a big statement compared to what he wrote in the past

It’s that last “say that leads into the strings that punches my gut everytime and leads to hours of crying

I am a 70 year old woman and this song relates to so many of us growing up taking the knocks but hopefully bouncing back , and that high note at the end was amazing a very talented and gifted young man 🎶🎵🎼

The incredible thing is that Finneas and his sister were 100% inspired by the production of James Blake.

I hope James knows how many people he inspired to be electronic pop and R&B bedroom artists.

I grew up your biggest fan, I found your music at age 20 and instantly felt it in my soul. Told anyone that would listen to me about you, all the way back to Air and Lack Thereof. I had a really awful childhood where everyone that was supposed to love me hurt me. I grew up with a sick, twisted definition of love. I was so depressed for years and you and Tame Impala really got me through so much. Im 30 now and I've pulled through over the last few years and I feel so much better, but everytime I hear a James Blake song it sparks so many emotions and reminds me where I came from. Last November I got married to the man of dreams, and I'll Come Too was our wedding song. Now when I hear this James Blake song I tear up like I used to with Lindisfarne or or Why don't you call me, but now I cry happy tears feeling happiness and evolution in myself. James blake finally singing love songs and Justin getting married and finally happy, what a concept.

When many have looked up to you, it can be hard to know how to look at yourself.

Have you noticed how they used colors to show the transition from a sad and jealous Blake to a redemptive one? Blake wears blue for almost the entire video, until the concert part (the redemption!) when he finally accepts his life the way it is, then the color palette becomes green. According to the color symbolism in western culture, blue may be associated with sadness, while green is commonly associated with healing and hope.
