Santiago Atitlan Tuk Tuk Tour | GUATEMALA TRAVEL VLOG

Today we head over to the largest town on Lake Atitlan, Santiago Atitlan. It's a short 20-minute boat ride around the coast where we learn about Guatemala's bloody civil war and meet a local celebrity! Today we jump on a Tuk Tuk Tour to explore this beautiful town.

Before setting off for Santiago, we had a couple of things in mind that we wanted to visit, one of them was Maximón, the wooden effigy of a man worshipped by local people that apparently drinks alcohol and smokes. This all sounded very mysterious and from our research, we realised that we would need a local guide to take us to Maximón. After that our plan was to explore Santiago on foot as it came. As it turned out we got the most amazing tour guide when we arrived at the port who took us around Santiago and taught us the history of the town. He also introduced us to a lovely 77 year old lady called Concepción Ramírez who has appeared on the Guatemalan 25 cent coin since 1959.

Enjoy our latest Guatemala Travel Vlog!

Maximón is an interesting figure - never quite seen anything like it. Can't believe that two people have a fulltime job of just guarding him - I guess they get to share in the alcohol and tobacco offerings? 😉 What a diverse place Santiago is. I really like random experiences - Concepción is one cool lady! 😀 Oh mannn, that food at the end looks AMAZING. I love it when you get lots of different things in a meal. YUMMMM

The second week of December is when you will see thousands of tourists from all over the world there including myself!! Although I’ve been there many times, I did not know the history behind the town... so thank you for that. I absolutely love Santiago Atitlan, the sceneries are endless 😍

Santiago looks so beautiful place, but there is always a sad history behind such places. I would have been an overwhelming experience to meet the lady, she was so cute :). Pedro looks like an amazing guide.
