The fact that they couldn't even be bothered to change the file names is hilarious. Wonder if it was from laziness, ineptitude, or confidence it would never be discovered. Depressing to think about how often this does happen and isn't caught.

Glad to know Capcom still fumbles right on their fucking face while being back in the game, things don't change
funkybones
Capcom is like Megaman in real life, but with stealing art instead of stealing powers.

That last story is legit disgusting and I hope that worked out for the poor artist, but that RE8 situation isn’t credible remotely.
Capcom was basically accused of stealing “man with propeller for a head” as a monster concept and that’s the legit only thing they had going for it. From what I hear the movie didn’t do well and no one liked it, so I just think it’s someone who worked on that movie’s desperate attempt for relevance from an otherwise forgettable movie.

Oh yeah back in the day video game company stole all kinds of things character designs, music, and assets it was the Wild West

I mean just the filename is similar. Hmm, suspicious!

Reminds me of the time, tangentially, the Mega Man 10 webpage (still up after 12 years, iirc) erroneously used in-progress graphics from Unlimited, still known at the time also as MM10. Specifically, background tiles from Comet Woman and Tank Man. Unlimited is public domain now, more or less, but it's still a funny goof.

I'd be willing to forgive Crapcom, if they would put some of that theiving effort into a new fuckin Dino Crises.

And then they were caught plagiarizing a stock image for the initial street fighter 6 logo before they quickly changed to a more original, better looking logo.

Capcom's behavior is bad, but I honestly find Nintendo's abusive behavior against fan games and mods to be more scummy.
During the peak of COVID, Nintendo sent a Cease and Desist letter to a Super Smash Bros tournament, because Melee was using a rollback netcode mod. Nintendo would rather have fans not play their games or spread COVID.

noone listens to me let alone yms so im just gonna say that street fighter has a history of taking characters from actors, manga etc.
rolento is just a guy they stole from fist of the north star. exactly the same.

I just played RE4 for the first time and couldn't believe that 8 hours in, they forced me to solve a sliding square picture puzzle, like the ones you get at a birthday party as a kid. 10/10 game, let me tell ya

I mean, if most of the stealing is literally just background textures. Then I don’t see how that harms the games originality. Don’t get me wrong. It’s scummy as hell and I’m glad the artist sued. But it’s a bit dumb to say a games unoriginal because a stained glass window, door, and wall textures were stolen.
As for the RE 8 enemy. It’s sure as shit similar, and I wouldn’t put it past Capcom seeing the design and running with it. But, wasn’t an entire section of the Kimba review stating that coincidences do occur. I mean, Heisenberg was combining humans with metal and machines. Airplane propellers have been used in movies and shows to chop up people. Fast moving blades are scary. So it’s not far fetched that Capcom would design a boss that’s a guy combined with a propeller. When they literally have a character combining guys with mechanical parts.

Not accusing Square Enix of anything like this, but I noticed a little section of battle music from the FFVII Remake sounds very similar to a rendition someone did years before.
The_October_Man
at least they dont work for bobby kotick

Capcom, you have good games, but come on. That is a bad move from you.
theheadlessjackfrost
I take it Adam wasn't a fan of RE 8 then
gumbiman
assets dont compose the entire game. Such a weak conclusion on something so minor
driguesbarcellos
I don’t care about capcom I just play about their games lol
no support/love for the company I just find good games I like

Capcom has incredible games, this is just a cute silly goof. I hope the artist makes a lot of money from the lawsuit though.
