Flystrike can happen when the fleece gets wet or dirty. Some sheep live rough on the mountains so they're not seen up close everyday. It only takes a few days to get that bad. The first thing to do is get the sheep sheared. Then you can see what to do next. There are antibiotics and sprays that can be used. Just washing the area off helps. I imagine this fellow called Karol in when they saw the damage.

Poor sheep. Would have left a better impression if you showed the wounds being cleaned and treated

Bad case of fly blown there, ewe will definitely be feeling more comfort and relief after that shear of wool for sure! 👍

Thhank God that she was found and sheared, but it must have been excruciatingly painful. Imagine, being sheared with that much sore skin, but it had to be done. We had a friend's pet sheep to keep the pony company. Being summer I clipped/ sheared it and there were three fist size holes full of maggots under her fleece. I have worked with animals most of my life and at the vets foe eight years, but I have to say that that was theost sickening thing that I have ever seen.

Probably feels good to get fresh air on those wounds.

One of our sheep died of this recently, the wounds were not in the usual place but underneath his legs. The poor sheep was still alive and kicking friday but we found him dead on sunday. What made it even worse is that he was brought up by bottle so he acted more like a dog than a sheep...

Nasty. Thanks for showing others what can happen. Lots of new homesteaders these days getting animals without properly researching care requirements

Poor girl! Imagine having your skin crawling with maggots under your “clothes”. She needs a good wash and treatment for her sores.

Oof! Poor thing, my mom owns sheep and recently she gotten four rescues who didn't have anywhere to go because of "current medical conditions", an boy did they have a laundry list of issues.

All had overgrown fur, one was blind from getting wool blind for so long her eyes got infected, two had fly strike from hell. The ram was the worst hit, he had to actually be put down cuz his penis had gotten infected and all but fell off giveing him a UTI so bad our vet said it be kinder to let him go.

But after a few months of TLC they pulled on through an got an exstra surprise when one gave birth on e we shaved an bathed her. I wish there was this animal care class one has to take an graduate from before going out an just buying an animal without the needed know how and resources to care for them properly.

My understanding is the fly strike doesn't take much time to get this way I am not a sheep herder, so I could be wrong.
It looks so painful! Poor thing!

Don’t flies only lay eggs if there is already a wound? God this looks just so painful. 😞
