I have wanted this Famicom Edition Gameboy Micro for about as long as I can remember. Recently I finally decided to buy this one that came with a handful of games, but unfortunately it may have been too good to be true.

Changing the screen is legit 6-12 dollars shipped depending on where you buy it from. I wouldn’t worry too much about it but if you want to replace the screen it’s really not that bad!

I've bought and sold many, many handhelds over the years but selling the Game Boy Micro Famicom Edition I bought at launch, in Tokyo, nearly 20 years ago now, will always be my biggest regret. I have since vowed that under no circumstances am I allowed to sell a handheld again.

Dead pixels happen at the factory level. You don’t suddenly get one during shipping. They’re there from day 1. And they’re actually quite common. After owning countless systems with screens over the years (ds, ds lite, dsi, dsi xl, 3ds, 3ds xl, new 3ds, 2ds etc etc…) it’s like roughly 25% that have at least one dead pixel. My switch oled has like 3. I’ve had it for years and didn’t even notice until last night. They’re not worth fixing and definitely not anything to stress about.

Magical Quest did make it's way into the states. What you were describing when you said it didn't was actually Magical Quest 3 for the SNES. All 3 were released in the US on the GBA.

This whole time I thought the dead pixels were dust! Also $200 for a handheld and all those games are a total score!

replacing the screen on a micro is a piece of piss mate, you got an absolute steal and bargain. personally i wouldnt even worry about the pixel for a bit, just enjoy it, its going to get dust and stuff on the screen constantly anyway thats the trade off with older devices and not having them laminated to the screen glass like todays phones etc. However its easily replaced... do we have another 30 day challenge coming along? i just ordered a custom ita screen gba from nataliethenerd and an ez flash omega, going to be awesome to relive a bunch of gba memories once more!

It’s 1 dead pixel. It’s going to be ok lol. That’s a beautiful system

The first Magical Quest game was known in Japan as Mickey no Magical Adventure on the Super Famicom and as Mickey to Minnie no Magical Quest on the GBA.

I remember back in 2006 when I got a Brand new white DS lite and the lower screen had a Still pixel "always stayed Red"
I was a bit annoyed at first but like a blind spot learned to get used to it to where I soon didn't even notice it anymore. Animal Crossing Wild World and Pokemon Diamond was the Flavor of the Month that year

I recently got the same micro but after watching your video I immediately started looking for dead pixels so i understand your frustration.

Man how I love the look of the Japanese gba labels

Keep this set mint. Buy another set and custom it to the best gba micro. I'd do that

Handheld Legend sells replacement screens for $25, so it's not an expensive fix at all

The Micro Id a bit hard to open but as long as you follow a tutorial and be gental you'll be fine, the screens are like 25 usd from like handheld Legends that's the one ik not sure about others

I say if you end up buying extra consoles and get another gba micro that has a great screen just swap the two.

So, I have a question. Do you have a passable knowledge of Japanese in order to play these games, or do you just collect them? Is there anyway to change the language to English once you buy them?

Can you read Japanese? I've never understood how people can play Japanese games

I just found my micro this past weekend cleaning out my dad’s basement, in perfect condition too, WITH the ac adapter and a few Mario games, no pokemon stuffs. I have all my handhelds together now
