Bloomberg tech editor Nate Lanxon sat down with Senior Scientist at the Planetary Science Institute Dr Pamela L Gay to discuss who will make first contact with extraterrestrial life and unpack whether some of the fundamental things we believe about the universe are correct.

i think the best thing we humans can do on this planet is to stop searching for life on other planets, at least until we learn how to care for this planet and get along with one other here first.

May be complex but I think what we know as extra terrestrials know we are looking for them, but are goading us to come out.

With how large the universe is, there is no way life does not exist elsewhere out there..

I think the best chance at finding Intelligent Industrial life is Tess or a Improved version of it. With it we can look not only at exoplanets, we are able to see if they have Artificial Satellites. Which is a clear indicator of Life. Furthermore, giant array radiotelescopes will help catch incidental chatter. Since current technologies to detect Alien signals have to be focused and intentional (on the Sending side). Looking for markers that would indicate Nuclear Weapons Testing or Nuclear Warfare can also be used to detect whether a planet has Intelligent life or not. In short the reason why we have not found ET is that our current approaches are technologically speaking quite unsophisticated and largely rely upon an alien world knowing where we are (unlikely in a radius of 70 Lightyears) and then make the conscious choice and effort to guess at which technological level we are and then decide to send a signal.

Furthermore Advanced Civilisations will certainly not use Photonic methods of Communication and will likely use a Neutrino based form of communication. Since those have considerable advantages.

But then again, we may never know since we are clearly and unmistakably heading into a direction of a great Filter that marks the End for Human Life on Earth.

Fermi never said that. His “paradox” derived from a discussion over a cartoon, not from the assertion of any convictions. What moves astronomy is hardly ever the search for inteligent life, or even life itself. That’s the business of science fiction writers and people that like to fill the inevitable gaps of scientific search with make believe, such as this lady in the video.

SETI is a big waste of time, money and energy. If they were *_actually serious_* about contact they would apply those resources creating tech that would at least attempt communicating with extraterrestrial crafts that already frequent our skies. Every government, even (finally) the U.S. government and military, has acknowledged their presence. So, SETI, instead of doing nothing for a living, how about you *_actually WORK_* for that funding?!?
