Making something less popular than the IKEA flat pack of bags, the M1928 haversack, is impressive.

Another good concept on paper that didn't quite pan out in field testing.

My wife's great uncle was at Omaha Beach 1st wave. Now Ironic, this vest saved his life. He was a BAR gunner and carried his BAR mags in the front pockets. Once he moved up the bluff he went to change mags for the BAR. The 2 mags in his top left pocket had shrapnel in them, thus saving his life.

The Italians of all people had a pretty modern chest rig for the Beretta smgs during the war

The best carry-all the G.I.s had was their gas mask bag. Just dump the gas mask.

The original concept still somewhat exists in the timber industry with cruiser vests

I have a video/series idea:
Act like your presenting to shark tank with ww2 gear or items and present it to show the pros and cons about the gear and why the sharks would like it

Grandfather (29th 121st battalion, invades Omaha) said he dumped his vest because he couldn't swim with it on since it was so heavy.

We have a World War II dagger that my grandpa and I are restoring to honor his dad and my great grandfather who never spoke about his battles at war. If it wasn’t so precious to us I would send it over to you but it’s a jewel in our family but I thought that was cool so I wanted to share

Hey I know this isn’t really related to this video but I just found a copy of my great grandfathers ww2 draft papers and I’m finding out a lot about him from them.

Did anyone notice how they are making something resembling the ALICE web gear available now because sometimes the vest concept just isn't as good.

The modern soldier pictured is wearing the unit patch of the 33rd Infantry Brigade, an Illinois Army National Guard unit.

Nice! I’ve been meaning to get my hands on one for a while

It wasn't for the fact they were solid canvas and had little training use, would've been great. My uncle said he ditched his the first chance he got.

A lot of Patriots drowned before they hit the shore....this weight had to be just miserable.

It sucks cause i actually like it, both the look and when reenacting, as it helps with the weight. But i really get that having the bag and being able to drop it if they're stuck in the water is much better than being weighed down by the vest instead.

Almost seems like the WW1 uniform designs were much better than those of WW2.

There are almost always 2 common complaints with soldiers no matter what era. “This gear is hot and heavy, this sh*t sucks.” I was definitely one of those 😊

Fun fact: Captain Miller (Tom Hanks) uses an Assault Vest in the Dog Green Omaha beach landings in the movie, “Saving Private Ryan”
