I finally got to see my favorite band of all time... EELS.

The venue was killer. A cool little spot nestled away in Orange County, the Galaxy Theater. It was really cool to stand in line and sit with other EELS fans who had their own stories to tell about how E's music has influenced their life.

The opening act was just about the worst thing I've seen in my life (a horribly perverted and not at all funny ventriloquist), but once E came out... his music changed my life. Again.

The show can only be described as utterly stellar and breathtaking. I had an absolutely amazing time, knew 90% of the songs being played (just didn't know a few new ones from the upcoming album) and had a seriously awesome view. Almost every song I'd wished to be played was played and E never stopped, which turned the Galaxy Theater into a huge wall of gorgeous sound scape .

He started small, then went big, then went low, then went high - playing a lot of songs off the recent End Times and Hombre Lobo, but not forgetting to pay homage to Beautiful Freak, Daisies of the Galaxy and Souljacker. He came out for an encore and played two songs from Blinking Lights... I was in awe the whole time.

EELS are playing again in October at the Henry Fonda theater and I suggest you get tickets and go.

I knew mostly everything except for a few songs from the unreleased album which were really cool and a cover. I can't remember one more they played from an older album too.
