The reason why xg calls it xpop is because they want to seperate themselves from kpop and create a new genre. Therefore, they can take some market share from the kpop. this was Simon's intentions from the beginning.

If you guys interested in where xg got all of that, you need to do a deep dive on Avex, their main company. Avex has managed and produced some of the biggest dance artists in japan. Tho xg produced most of their stuff in korea, japan arent so new with trainee system and everything that kpop known for now. Bcs at some point, it is started in Japan. But japanese music industry are even harsher, no artists can be guaranteed success even when you debuted under big company. Faky, another gg from avex (who also have very western sound) have been strugling for years now. They get better thankfully, but that probably one of the trigger of xg, they just cant afford to not succeed. Thats why they choose a very unique way to promote their stuff. Oh and just fyi, Avex is already very used to work with korean company and korean artists, so their way of promoting stuff is actually not very radical

The composers of MASCARA and Tippy Toes are Hwaji and Wutan, both of whom are Korean. Those songs are kpop songs. It's not that the songs have a K-pop vibe, they're just K-pop songs.

It's not K-pop because they don't sing in korean and they aren't korean, but they also aren't jpop, i think they are a group of japanese girls that trained in korean that sing Pop not K-pop or Jpop
