A bit of the point of that method is that you never have to rotate lol

the "random thing" you couldn't solve is just a result of unfinished EO. I believe that case in particular is solved with M' U' M U M' U' M'? Then you move on to solving the U R and U L edges. What you did is you put those mis-oriented edges on the bottom, then tried to solve the rest of the cube without fixing it. It's actually a mistake everyone makes pretty often, at least when starting out, so don't worry.

As a roux user who started out using cfop I can definitely say that it's easy to learn roux .even if it isn't as efficient as pure roux, you can do f2l for the blocks and I'll followed by a j perm or y perm for the corners

My thoughts on both methods:

Roux

1) roux is bad for big cubes because m moves is so hard to do except for 4x4
2) roux is better for one handed
3) less algs

Cfop

1)big cubes, megaminx is allot better if you know cfop
2)cfop is less more efficient than roux at OH
3) more algs.
4) look ahead is easier.
5) it can evolve into zb.

I remember learning Roux after using CFOP. It was hard at first. It really just takes practice. First time, I could barely blockbuild. I just went around looking at techniques until I figured it out.
