Java cannot produce enough food to feed itself though. It must import several million tons of rice each year and there is no more land available in Java to bring into production.
Ironically, Java suffers from low crop productivity.
I'm not sure if the island's population has yet reached 150 million. It was just over 140 million the last I read.
Jakarta is soon to be dethroned as the capital of Indonesia. It is being moved to Kalimantan timor soon. Jakarta's congestion is so great you can see why they're changing capitals.
