"Let's Hang On!" is a song composed by Bob Crewe, Sandy Linzer, and Denny Randell that was popularized by The Four Seasons in 1965. The single reached the No. 3 position in the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, the group's highest placement since "Rag Doll" hit the top spot in July 1964.

This was the last Four Seasons hit to feature bass singer/bassist Nick Massi. The same month "Let's Hang On!" was released, Massi left the group and was temporarily replaced by the band's arranger Charles Calello before Joe Long came in as Massi's full-time replacement.

People never mention the great fuzz guitar riff they used to open the song. Same tone as the Rolling Stones "Satisfaction." A classic performance, thanks for sharing!

Did my first Tap Dance recital to this. The audience was dancing in the rows.

I heard this fave oldie on Sirius today and was struck by the many musical hooks in it, both vocal and instrumental. As I listened, I noticed the bass lines are very interesting…almost Motown-ish…something I hadn’t noticed on earlier Four Seasons hits.

I wanted to double check who played the bass, knew Nick Massi had left around 1965 and wondered if a studio/session guy played bass (?) i searched the song here on YouTube and saw this live version …but didn’t think it would help with the ID, but it did!

Frankie’s vocal and some of the instruments are live here and the bass player is almost certainly the guy who played bass on the record. He’s playing the same lines and style here. It’s Joe Long, the guy who became the long term replacement for Nick after the great Charlie Calello filled in briefly. Joe is a bada** bass player. There weren’t a lot of them around in 1965.

Wikipedia says Nick is on the record (his last with the Seasons) but I think its his vocals only. My money is on Joe for the bass part on the hit single, and of course here. Thanks for sharing this video. The Four Seasons rule

Oddly, bass player has the most "presence", best "moves" and also cowrote at times.

Sadly, he is having issues with one of his sons, the son has substance issues. Poor Frankie, decades ago, he lost his daughter Francine to drugs. This must seem like history repeating itself. I think his first wife was an alcoholic, at least she was in the biopic.

A shame it's even shorter than the single version and that's fairly short

It appears only Frankie is singing live, the rest of the band is lip-synching (and playing along to the recording with their instruments.)

The trouble is that it was used for a chewing gum commercial, so its popularity died!
