Thatcher's father was an independent Liberal. He was of the galdstonian Liberal tradition and what would now be called a fiscal Conservative but he defiantly was not a Conservative politician.

You indeed did correctly state that she ran for Parliament and lost in 1950 (at Dartford), and also you correctly stated that she won a seat in Parliament in 1959 (at Finchley). But what you did not state is that she lost again in 1951 (at Dartford).

Thatcher was a high handed, mean-spirited, and belligerent individual who peddled an demented political and economical ideology of cutting taxes for the rich, cutting government assistance for the poor, and cutting regulations for the banks and corporate businesses, in the misguided and obsessed belief that it would lead to economic growth.

Instead, it has caused high public debt, extreme poverty, and wage inequality, which the UK is still struggling with today.
