Another great VFD game added to my collection! Q-Bert by Parker Brothers! Game features multiple levels of play and other features as found in the Arcade. Quite fun to play!

Great close up of the gameplay, I'd imagine that's harder than it looks on those old screens.

I managed to find an emulator for this little table top game. However, it's not perfect. It's a tad bit slower than the actual console itself but it still amazes me that someone was able to emulate this particular version of the game. There's a bunch of these games that they emulated, even the infamous Tiger hand helds lol

Looks one of the best VFD tabletops from the era...the gameplay is mostly intact and the graphics are easy to see. I would have had a lot of fun with this.

I hate sound like hater but that guy was not that good. But he did teach me some thing at the very beginning that I did not know. The thing about the whole police siren and graphics testing all that stuff. There are actual patterns that if you follow them properly you can get through levels 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4 and 2-1, 2-2, 2-3, 2-4 fairly easily without losing any lives. Which is good because you’re definitely gonna need them for levels in 3 and so on. One of the positive things that I’ve noticed as you move on in the levels is your Qbert gets faster which is very helpful. This game is all about strategy and knowing when to trick Coiley into flying off the board.

I remember when handhelds went from LED/VFD to LCD and I hated it. It just never looked as good and you could only really play in a brightly lit area. With the LED/VFD games, yeah it could get hard to see the game in direct sunlight, but it seemed like you could play in a lot more light levels. And I liked the light on dark contrast. I never had good eyesight and graphics that had light to them were always easier to see than those that didn't. Plus, the colors, man. THE COLORS!

when I got my unit from my oldest step brother years back who had kept his in storage it was in bad shape with no side, and top decals, and the battery terminals where totally gunked in old battery acid which took me a while to scrub off, and get back to working condition, but I've yet to replace my decals, and considering the shape my unit is in I will have to do it soon, and find some glue that won't cause any label rot, but it's my favorite home version of QBert!, and sits at the center of one of my game shelves next to my VFD Pac-Man that use to belong to my late father, so I would say do as you like with the decals, but if you ever sell it, and have replaced the decals just let it be known they are not original, as that's what I'm gonna make sure is done if my g/f or someone in my family sales mine when I pass on.
