Bruce is a human of absolute peak mental and physical conditioning. The thing is he needs that fear, that pain, as an incentive to prevent that happening to others. Not to mention, he channels the fear he feels into terrifying others. More of an in-depth character than "I'm the God damn Batman".

One of my favourite comic stories ever. People need to understand that when Hal returned a lot of people in the DC Universe still despised or didn’t trust him because of what he did as Parallax, especially Bruce.

Even after purging it from The Central Power Battery, the damage had already been done but the trust and truth of what truly happened to him started to heal his relationships with other heroes and characters, Bruce was still skeptical. The whole point of this issue was to show Bruce that the Hal he knew was really back and that he could trust him again. This gesture that he did for Bruce proved him wrong and even better it ended with him happy that his friend had returned

One thing I like about Batman and Green Lantern (Hal) is the different way they view Fear. Bruce accepted it, embraced it and focused it while Hal overcame it. It’s just brilliant that they both use Fear and Willpower as a motivator
