Jessie, is a supremely talented lady, beautiful, versatile, actress, who I first saw in “ The last Post “ an end of Empire series, she was so bloody good in that, playing a demure, wife of a British Army Officer. ( But with a backbone of steel)
But as a great reader, of History, the British Army in the Peninsula War was nearly 50% Irish, and the Spanish Civil War ( which a guy I used to drink with, I was twenty two, he around 70 ) (fought in the International Brigade) a dedicated communist, said again “ the were a great number of Irish Guys there.

PS to my last entry, the Communist guy, I referred to, ripped up his party card in his disgust at the Stalin- Ribbentrop Non- Agression Pact. To a young, idealistic man, truly trying to make a fairer society. He felt used, they all did. I know Spain very well, used to be able to speak the Spanish Language well, but not for eleven years, I am “ rusty” Civil Wars, really fracture a society, scars run deep. Also the Irish Civil War, but the Irish always had a great affinity with Spain, way back. Sadly they have shared the same experience.
