BMW's are reliable, as long as you are keeping it reliable. Keep up on that maintenance and you're g. Its the people who cant afford repairs or run them to shit and then complain when shit fucks up and call them unreliable.

As someone who has owned an E36 M3, E36 328is, E46 325i, E39 525i, E39 540i, and an E34 525i, (all maintained by me, never a shop) whoever told you BMWs weren't reliable either didn't know much of anything about bimmers or flat out lied... BMW makes up the majority of cars I've owned over the past 10 years and I've owned Honda/Acuras, Toyota/Lexus, Chrysler/Dodge, Volkswagen, Mazda(miata), and Mercedes.... 17 cars so I have a problem and no I will not change... BMWs are reliable as long as you keep up on the maintenance and take care of it as you should, especially the older naturally aspirated models. An E36 is so rewarding and any kind of tuning can be felt in how the car behaves. I own one currently and I came from an E39 which was also an amazing car to drive.
