I dont see the idea in the current qualification at all. To me it seems much more intuitive to give the first spot to the summer champion the second to the team with the most championship points and than thr third spot to the winner of the regional qualifier that follows the playoffs. You could also add some additional rules such as the second spot is only qualifiying you for the main event if the team was better in summer play offs then the winner of reg. qualifiers. Otherwise it is decided in a bo5 and so on. Furthermore it could help to add some bo5 within the playoff run.

Madlions ended up 4 and every team going to world are top 4 so the 4 best teams will represent eu excel is top 5 so even with the old rule it would have been the same
