The gold platting paste is purple/redish because that's the color of gold nanoparticles. The red stained glass in some old churches comes from very fine grounded gold powder infused in the glass. They used to ground that up by hand to nanoparticles, which is pretty cool and insane when you think about it.

Fun fact: the gold DeLorean was sold for 85k ($323, 441.50 in todays dollars) but only two were officially created with a partnership with American Express to promote their gold card. They are both currently in a museum. It sounds like three others were plated after manufacturing as well for a total of 5. 💛😊💛

I have a 24k gold plating brush setup, I normally plate silver rings and jewelry with it. The key to it working well is having it clean and polished. If it's dirty at all it doesn't work and if it's not polished it keeps the same texture exactly like what is happening here. It's cool to see this done on a large scale like this.
