Walking in other people's shoes is a really good lesson even for children. My mum used to encourage us to understand someone's behaviour by remarking "hmm i wonder what happened to them today to make them act that way?". It really helped me to counter potential bullies and instead be compassionate while setting healthy self-boundaries.
