5 Synth VST Plugins for any Budget - Early 2023 Edition

Hey, what’s up producers, Joshua Casper here with Plugin Boutique and I’m going to run down 5 incredible synths for any budget.

The point here isn’t to sell you the more expensive ones, it’s actually to let you know that you can get high quality release ready sounds from any of these synths.

So, I will let you know some key features for each of them, their price and play a few sounds as well. The rest is up to you.

One final note before jumping in, a quick caveat about the list and it’s a good one, depending on when you are watching this.

As of this moment, 3 of these 5 synths are on sale… and not just a couple percentage points, 50% or more. So, the list order is subject to change, but I put the current price and the normal list price for each.

Cool?

Alright, first up is Union from Soundspot.
• 2 analog-style OSCs, with 6 shapes, and a third wavetable OSC, and you create the WAVETABLE with the combination of the two other OSC. Pretty cool idea that generate great results.
• Each OSC goes up to 32 voice unison – that’s a lot of voices
• 9 FX
• 300+ presets

Massive by Native Instruments

What hasn’t been said about this synth. This was the first synth I ever bought all those years ago, I think it cost me $200 or something, now it’s on sale for £32!

• 3 Wavetable OSC
• Fantastic modulation and routing capabilities
• LFOs, Envelopes, Step Sequencer, etc
• Ships with 1,300 presets and endless preset packs out there!

DRC - Polyphonic Synthesizer

• This is a light-weight synth with big sound
• 2 osc, 1 sub osc, and one sound source.
• Strong stereo tape delay and reverbs, both with modulation functions
• Music theory tools

Hive 2 by U-he

• Low CPU usage, 3 different synth engines
• Drag & drop modulation assignment
• Massive modulation matrix, step sequencer, arpeggiator, 7 effects and much more
• +2,400 presets utilizing everything this complex synth has to offer

Pigments by Arturia

• 2 Sound Engine
• Analog, Wavetable, Sample, Granular and Harmonic
• 18 built-in high class fx
• Advanced Drag & Drop modulation
• Over 1,400 professional craft presets

Looking back on the invoice, I've bought Union for less than 2 pounds last year from plugin boutique (I dont remember, why it was so cheap), but somehow I dont like it and almost not using at all. Instead of that synth, I would put on this list synthmaster one or 2, which were lately on discount as well. I've bought them and I love them. I've got also Massive, love the sounds, but Im still learning how to work with that synth. Hive ( I dont have it) maybe sounds great, but Im not fan of this design. Pigments 4 is fantastic, I will buy one day, but not now - I will be busy with Avenger next months ;)

hello! I am using the latest version of logic pro x and scaler2. Conflict with scaler2 too bad. I can't work on music. Is it just me?

Chapter 4 should begin at 9:05, not at 9:40 and 5th at 12:06, 6th at 16:30.

There is more than a hundred people like you on YouTube and, who knows where else, who came up with a totally different result. You guys are just here to confuse the hell out of everyone, not helping.
