I'm a DevOps Engineer. I was working at a smaller software company last year and they were still running *Windows Server 2003 VMs*, and to my knowledge, they still are. One of the Devs is a Visual Basic 6 SME. VB was created before he was even born! And keep in mind, this is a *software company*, so they are more open to and adoptive of new tech than MOST companies! However, they still have to support legacy code. There are tons of gov't entities that can't find COBAL Devs right now that they need due to the pandemic...


Point is, VMs are so, so incredibly far from obsolete, if they will ever become obsolete. IMO it will be about a decade before containers are as mainstream as VMs are right now.
