Herodotus was an ancient Greek historian, traveler, and geographer of the 5th century BC.

Herodotus is considered the founder of the science of history. The only work he has written seems to be "Histories". This is a record of the history of wars between the Greeks and the Persians, including rich geographical and ethnographic information.

Although some of Herodotus quotes were imaginative and other inaccurate, he says he only recorded what they were saying and was usually correct in his information.

Apart from the importance of Herodotus as a historian, little is known about his personal life. Herodotus was first described by Cicero as Father of History. He also appeared to be concerned with geology, botany, chemistry and medicine.
