Why ASCII Art Isn't Accessible

ASCII art is a design technique that uses letters, numbers, punctuation marks, and other characters to create illustrative pictures. It's often used on social media to make topical memes, and it's become more common for many major brands to use ASCII art as well. Unfortunately, it's not accessible.

Screen readers can't read traditional ASCII art because all they see are individual characters instead of a single illustration, which can result in a confusing reading. If you really want to use ASCII art, screenshot your illustration, upload it to your post as an image, and then write alt text describing the art you created. Your final post will be accessible.
