Nissan have been having no end of trouble with their cars since they have hopped into bed with Renault as I've driven cars (Holdens) with the Australian delivered Nissan RB30E fitted & they are a very strong & long lasting engine, a lot of the Nissans run a Renault engine now.

My uncle recently blew the 3 litre turbo diesel engine up in his D22 Nissan Navara after he changed the oil & went to pick my cousin up from his apple picking job, they were only about 300 kilometres into a 900 kilometre trip then the motor went out in it.

He bought the Navara off a bloke who had spent $11, 000 AUD on getting his blown engine replaced in it with a brand new engine only for that one to go in it after he bought it, he has been towing a caravan with is as my cousin sleeps in the caravan at the apple orchard.

He has had better luck with his Australian delivered 4 litre six cylinder Ford Falcon which engines last over 1 million kilometres in them, he had the same bad luck as the Navara as with his old Mitsubushi Pajero when the turbocharger & engine packed it in, they can't seem to take the punishment that the Aussie built Holdens & Fords could before they left Australia, Opel are only fitting that overrated turbocharged junk into the imported Holden Commodore now so they may only be as strong as the Navara & Pajero.

That's why I bought an Aussie built Holden Commodore which runs the 5.7 litre Chevy V8 engine.

So, I'm not sure what my uncle is going to do with his Navara now !!!!

Hi. Thanks for the informative video. I would like to know what causes this failure? I had the same noise in my engine, it was fixed after watching this video. The noise is back again in just under a year...

With my uncles engine, the insurance company who they are with offers roadside assist started it up after topping the engine up with oil - it had no oil in it & the engine just overheated & locked up.

Oil was sprayed all throughout the engine bay because the oil pressure switch blew out which is how the engine lost all of its oil.

They will see how it goes without a rebuild but they need to figure out how to get it home because the vehicle is stuck in a depot which is 300 kilometres away from their place.

So, my bad regarding the engine in this case as that wasn't the engines fault !!!!

The reason I said that is because the Renault engines in the Nissans haven't had a very good track record.

The 2 main faults of the QR25DE engine are :-

1 - The screws on the 4 butterflies inside the intake runner work themselves loose, get sucked into the cylinders then mess up the piston(s), rings and/or cylinders.

2 - The catalyst fuses together inside the catalytic converter then it smashes apart due to normal vibrations, the turbulence from the exhaust gases pushes the fine dust up into the engine which chews out the piston rings.

It is apparently caused by the ECU not regulating the fuel mixture properly, so the engine runs too rich therefore some of the raw fuel enters the catalytic converter & destroys it.

So, there must be an issue with the throttle butterfly screws, wrong or no loctite on the threads ?

Maybe the ends of the screws need to be "staked" (burred over) so they don't come loose ?

There may need to be a revision done on the software or hardware in the ECU !!!!

Thanks for the very good information and I like to ask you a question.I´m living in Chile South America and the D22 pick-up trucks (here called Nissan Terrano)actually have a good reputation here, being used by mining companies in remote and deserted areas under rough driving conditions.Could this mean that the YD25 engines here are different from the European ones?Looking forward to your answer. Hi I rebuilt mine on my drive and have a noise similar but is quite when cold get louder as it warms up but is not a bad as this. I rebuilt it as it had a bent rod. Now worried that because I didn't check the rods on the crank out of the vehicle that I my have a cracked rod and missed it or I have fitted the wrong size shell bearings.

What was the cause of this ? I myself might have a potential problem with the #1 main bearing in a 2011 Nissan with the VQ35DE motor. The engine is ticking/knocking but only at idle with the engine fully warmed up.
Thank you.

My Navara D40 also have a knocking noise and the mechanic reckons it is a stuck valve lifter. It sounds if it comes from the top of the engine. Can it be the conrod

DTC 0707 P7 Fuel timing feedback fault. Hi, this is my first post so hi to everyone and i hope your expertise on the d22 can be of some help to me.

A d22 with yd25 engine 2003 model, bosch VP fuel pump. Can drive Sometimes up to 10 miles or as little a 2 miles before vehicle looses power and EML light illuminates, sometimes blue smoke sometimes not and sometimes regains power and drives ok again for another few miles.
Vehicle stores one fault code DTC 0707 P7 - F/INJ TIMG FB. I was informed it may have had contaminated fuel in it so first things first checked for air and restriction on fuel lines and all seemed ok but to be sure i fitted fuel feed and return pipes directly from pump into fuel can and fault still occured. I then removed and reconditioned the injection pump(full bosch overhall) refitted the pump and the fault still occured, a replacement injection pump was fitted also, still same fault so that was ruled out. since then the engine has new timing chains, tensioners and guides, top and bottom, new engine ecu fitted and coded at main dealer, new crank sensor, electric supply pump fitted, injectors checked, gear box switch done, all earth connections cleaned and new earth cables. Fault is still exactly the same as day one.

If anyone has come across something similar any info would be helpfull, i know it seems as though theres nothing left to do. Just thought it would be worth posting on here.

Thanks!
